How to Play Online Blackjack

Online Blackjack is one of the fastest paced card games available and there are many different varieties of this traditional Vegas-style casino game. Each variety uses the same basic principles.

If you have asked yourself the question, “How do I play blackjack?” and are looking to see what all the fuss is about, carry on reading for a mini low-down of the game where you will learn the basics of the game. We will try to teach you how to play blackjack.

The Standard Rules of Blackjack for Beginners

You will be playing against the dealer (the house) and the idea is to reach get as close to 21 as possible, any higher and you will go bust (lose). Your total must be higher than the dealers to win and you will initially start with two ‘Hole’ cards.

Each card is worth its face value. An ace is worth 1 or 11 and the Jack, Queen and King are all worth 10. A natural blackjack is when you are dealt an ace and a 10 in the first two cards (total of 21). Depending on what you are first dealt, you can then choose to Stand (Stick with what you have and take no more cards) or Hit (take another card).

If you have the same amount as the dealer at the end of the game, the result is a Push (the game is tied) and you will receive your money back.

Simple Tips for Blackjack

Players should look for a reputable online casino that uses industry certified software. This will guarantee that the outcomes are both fair and realistic, much like in a real casino environment.

Use these basic tips when learning how to play blackjack and win instead of losing.

Players should try to avoid opting for ‘Insurance’ because the odds are predominantly in favour of the house.

If you are dealt two 4’s, 5’s, 10’s or face cards, you should never Split them but you are advised to split 7’s, 8’s and Aces (when the house face up card is of equal value or lower). Plus, always split 2’s and 3’s when the dealers face up card is showing a 4, 5 or 6.

Doubling down is a good idea when you have been dealt 15, 16 or 17 while the dealer is showing a four. Mathematically, the dealer should then hopefully bust. Another good time to double down is when your cards total 9 and the dealer happens to be showing a 3, 4, 5 or 6. Also double down if the dealer is showing anything other than an Ace or 10 when you have a 10.

When the dealer is showing anything from a 7 or lower, stand on a hard 17. You should also stand if the dealer is showing a 6 or lower and you have 13, 14, 15 or 16.
