Unibet Pleased with Q2 Earnings - 08-11-09 |
August 11 - The Swedish gambling company, Unibet, delivered its second quarter results yesterday, showing gross winnings of GBP 30 million, compared to GBP 27.9 a year ago.
The Chief Executive Officer of Unibet, Petter Nylander said that live betting contributed a significant portion of gross winnings from sports (37.3%), in comparison to the 23.3% that was recorded in 2008.
Nylander commented on the second quarter results and said: "We have been very active with marketing and thereby investing for the future in establishing Unibet in our emerging markets with attractive terms given the current economic climate."
"Unibet continues to be at the forefront of the industry," added Nylander, "driving the convergence between online gambling and broadcasting with more than 1,800 streamed sports events during the second quarter and the launch of live dealer casino for our customers."
Unibet showed that its operating profits dropped to GBP 1.9 million in the quarter, down from GBP 6 million recorded last year.
The main reason for such a sharp drop in the profits was due to a nearly GBP 3 million loss in foreign exchange.
Unibet undertook a number of major operation in the past year, including signing up Bruges FC and the Hungarian Frencvaros in sponsorship deals, as well as the launch of Mariapoker, a female focused poker brand.
