UK Bookies Offer Odds on Federer Twins - 08-07-09 |
August 7 - One of the greatest tennis players in history, Roger Federer grabbed the biggest title of this life two weeks ago - Father of Twin Girls.
Federer's wife, Mirka gave birth to infant twin girls on Thursday night and the overjoyed parents named them Myla Rose and Charlene Riva.
In a brief statement, Federer said: "This is the greatest day of our lives. Mirka, Myla and Charlene are all healthy and doing well."
Bookmakers around the world, within hours of the twins' birth, started posting odds on the chances of them winning Grand Slam titles in the future.
Myla and Charlene certainly share a superb gene pool.
Roger Federer holds the record for no less than fifteen grand slam titles, and he shows no signs of letting up, while their mother, Mirka is a former tennis player on the Swiss Olympic team.
A spokesman for Ladbrokes, Nick Weinberg said: "The twins certainly come from good tennis stock. If they are half as good as their dad, they will be a potent force on the court."
Ladbrokes offered odds of 25:1 that one of the girls would grab a major title before 2035. It also offers odds of 100:1 that one of them wins the Wimbledon title.
However, William Hill has slightly less confidence in the girls' ability to reach the high standard set by their father, posting odds of 100:1 that either of them will win a Grand Slam title before they turn 21.
A spokesman for the group said: "Roger provides the perfect pedigree, but it is still a big ask for either of the girls to reach the peak of ladies tennis."
