Six Online Casinos Lose eCOGRA Seal - 02-21-08 |
February 21 - As an online gambling operator, receiving accreditation from the
industry's leading watchdog and player protection organization, eCOGRA
(eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance) is a big deal. However,
it seems for many keeping the accreditation is the hard part.
As a non-profit organization, the purpose of London-based eCOGRA is to oversee
and ensure player protection, fair gaming, and responsible operator conduct
within the multi-billion dollar online gambling industry, in order to protect
those people and businesses that engage in lawful online gambling.
eCOGRA awards its accreditation to online gambling companies that meet its
strict guidelines and criteria to ensure that when online gamblers visit an
eCOGRA accredited website and see the eCOGRA 'Safe and Fair' seal, that they can
rest assured that the site is safe, secure, reputable, honest and fair.
However, after its Compliance and Advisory Services staff recently completed
comprehensive on-site reviews of the its member online casinos and poker rooms,
eCOGRA found six online casinos to be in non-compliance with its Generally
Accepted Principles, resulting in their automatic suspension.
The six suspensions reportedly came as a surprise to eCOGRA, as this is only the
second time since the organization was founded five years ago, that online
gambling operators have been suspended. All six online casinos are licensed by
the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, located in Canada.
