Scandinavians Dominate EMOP Poker Event - 08-10-09 |
August 10 - One of the most sought after amateur poker events in the year is the European Masters of Poker (EMOP).
The latest leg of this competition was no exception and players from Europe flocked to put their skills to the test at the Gran Casino of Barcelona, organized by Entraction Network.
A particularly large contingent of Scandinavian players attended the competition and these amateurs continued to dominate the tables.
Anton Wigg was finally declared the winner of the EUR 1,100 buy in tournament and, not surprisingly, he hails from Sweden.
Five out of the six finalists in the EMOP event were Scandinavians, showing just how strong the poker talent from this region really is.
The 'odd' man out was Maciej Swicarz who hails from Poland and against who Wigg fought heads up to take home the title.
Wigg won an impressive EUR 95,760 for his efforts.
This win has certainly been a boost to Wigg's amateur poker career. The player has only reached as far as fourth place in a side event held at the Swedish Open Poker Championships in 2007.
Swicarz won second place, while Kristian Eriksson, Manfred Kavestam and Morgen Karlsson won third, fourth and fifth places respectively.
