Poker Boss Predicts Future of US Market - 08-12-09 |
August 12 - Last month, 888 Holding's Chief Executive Officer, Gigi Levy predicted that if and when the US government decides to regulate and legalize online poker, the market will still be severely restricted and the government will only issue licenses to US groups.
However, one of the most prominent lobbyists for online poker in the United States, former Poker Voters of America boss, Jim Tabilio, has said that he does not agree with these predictions and believes that European operators, too, will be able to find their way into the US market.
"The 888 view is a little extreme," said Tabilio in a recent interview. "With the situation at federal level, the first states will set a high regulatory bar, but the comfort level of other state governments will rise as they see these systems are easy to regulate and monitor."
"I think there will subsequently be a greater range of opportunities for European companies who can demonstrate expertise and experience of operating in a well regulated environment," concluded Tabilio.
Tavilio recently stepped down as the president for the very powerful Poker Voters of America - a group he helped to found.
He said that there would definitely be place for operators such as Playtech and 888 in the market.
"You can go through the list of European companies and find those that have resources that would helpful to a company that wanted to obtain a license," he said.
