Online Gaming Study Examines Gambling Habits - 08-05-09

August 5 - A new online gaming survey which studied the trends of over 2,000 online gamers has revealed that technology plays an important role in determining the gaming habits of players.

Conducted by WMS Gaming, an Illinois based gaming software provider of slot machines and other games, the survey aimed to identify the different personal preferences and behavior trends of online gamblers in the United States.

Results of the survey revealed that the youth of today were very dependent on technology and needed to have any information delivered faster and faster. However, the survey also showed that a large section of the online gaming player population was from an elder generation and were less in tune with the technology of today.

Combining these two findings, the survey showed that the future of the online gaming markets needs to be reconfigured to target all possible audiences and market groups that make up the sector.

Rob Bone, VIP of Marketing for WMS Gaming, said that the results were deduced from a full and active gaming population which was divided into three sections - frequent, casual and avid - based on the number of visits made by gamblers to casinos in a one year period.

Bone said that some of the trends revealed in the survey might revolutionize the online industry and how people play their online games. He explained that gamblers have less time on their hands, and that online casinos make more sense on a time scale for most players. Land based casinos were seen as a leisure activity, which people have less time for.

Bone summarized that there is no way to avoid the impact that technology has on gaming trends. He said that "active gamblers spend hours online, and new devices such as mobile I-phones allow gambler to engage in internet on demand."
