Online Bookies Back Barack Obama in US Election - 02-15-08

February 15 - Contrary to their name, online sportsbooks accept bets on the outcome of just about anything, including US politics. And by all accounts, the majority of online sportsbooks are punting Senator Barack Obama to win the Democratic nomination for President over party rival, Senator Hillary Clinton.

Both Senators are currently hot on the campaign trail with the objective of drumming up as many votes as possible to win the coveted Democratic party nomination. Winning this will put them in the race for the Presidential elections, and potentially take them all the way to the White House.

According to a number of leading online sportsbooks, Obama is expected to trounce Clinton in the upcoming primaries (primary elections), even in Ohio and Texas, two of the states that Clinton is thought to have her hopes riding on. Obama is also the odds-on favorite to be elected President in November this year.

For instance, leading online gambling website, Bodog, is offering odds on who will be named Democratic candidate for the 2008 US Presidential Election. As of today, Bodog is offering odds of 3.33 for Clinton and 1.27 for Obama.

As to who will be named Republican Candidate for the 2008 US Presidential Election, Bodog has John McCain at 1.02, Mike Huckabee at a 21.00, and Ron Paul at 101.

Bodog even has a line on who will become President of the United States. Hillary Clinton is sitting at 5.00, John McCain at 2.75, Barack Obama at 1.71, Mike Bloomberg at 61.00, Mike Huckabee at 61.00, and Ron Paul at 151.00.

In terms of the favorites, most online sportsbooks are predicting that Obama has 50 percent chance of becoming the next President, while John McCain has a 34 percent chance, and Clinton a 17 percent chance.
