March 18 - The chance to become part of Italy's online poker valued at €3 billion is one that Microgaming software group just had to take.

As such, the group announced this week the launching of new poker network that will offer poker tournament games.

The site hopes to expand its offerings as Italian law changes to allow a wider range.

"The launch of Microgaming's Italian Poker Network is another example of Microgaming bringing the highest global standards to local markets," said the Chief Executive Officer of Microgaming, Roger Raatgever.

"We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the new poker network is fit for purpose to meet the needs of the Italian player base, as well as the Italian regulatory standards."

Microgaming has embarked on a campaign to attract gambling operators to join its new network, and has already signed on Ladbrokes to become the first foreign operator to use its software.

The group is also involved in negotiations with other gambling operators.

"With the Italian market set to become increasingly open and competitive in the months to come, we are confident that we have the right resources and alliances to support our operators and help them to succeed," said Raatgever.

He said that Italy was an important region for the future of gaming in Europe, as it had to set the standard for other countries who wished to introduce gaming regulations.

"It is a crucial gateway for further EU expansion," he said. "We remain committed to the Italian market and are keen to play our part in helping our licensees take full advantage of the opportunities that lie therein and beyond."
