Louisiana Police Warn Online Gambling Execs |
September 28 - Louisiana police have issued a warning to all online gambling
executives to stop accepting bets from gamblers based in the southern US state
or risk being arrested if they set foot on US soil.
This blatant warning came to light in an interview between the head of
Louisiana's Police Gaming Enforcement casino division, Captain Joe Lentini, and
a journalist from a top financial newspaper.
Lentini was in charge of the investigation that saw ex-Sportingbet PLC
chairman, Peter Dicks being arrested in New York City a few weeks ago on charges of
illegal online gambling, which is a felony offence in Louisiana.
A felony in the state carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a
$25 000 fine.
Lentini also admitted that there were other online gambling companies under
investigation and that their top directors and executives were at risk of being
arrested should they enter the United States.
In fact, the newspaper reported that the Louisiana state police are allegedly
holding sealed warrants against over 50 individuals working or connected to
about a dozen online gambling companies.
