Ladbrokes to Launch Poker Service in Italy - 12-24-09 |
December 24 - UK gambling giant,
Ladbrokes has shown its commitment to
international expansion by applying for - and receiving - an operating license
in the Italian poker market.
From January next year, Ladbrokes will be entitled to offer online poker
tournaments, thanks to a license received from the Italian regulators, AAMS.
Since Italy began a major reform of its online gambling market, operators
have flocked to the country in the hope of launching their own products in the
expanding industry.
It is believed that Italy's poker market will be the largest in Europe this
year and, according data research group, H2 Gambling Capital, gross revenues
should generate up to €280 million.
"We are committed to expanding the international reach of our online business
and Italy is an excellent regulated market opportunity," said the Chief
Executive Officer of Ladbrokes, Christopher Bell.
"We hope that further positive regulations in Italy will allow us to further
expand our product range by launching cash games in
online poker, as well as
online bingo and
casino gaming," he added.
It is believed that as the market becomes more reformed, the Italians will
allow Ladbrokes to offer other products to enter the market.
Ladbrokes.com is one of the leading gambling brands in the world,
incorporating sports betting, poker, casino, games, bingo and backgammon into
its prestigious portfolio.
The group employs 16,000 skilled employees and the group took in £16
billion in stakes in 2008 alone.
