Ladbrokes to Join ESSA - 03-02-10 |
February 3 - The UK gambling giant,
Ladbrokes, has added another industry
first to its list by joining the European Sports Security Association (ESSA)
as the only group to do so that operates both online and offline brands.
Khalid Ali, the Secretary General of ESSA said about the news: "This is an
important step to ensuring ESSA becomes the industry standard organization that
has the support of both online and offline operators."
"We welcome Ladbrokes and we are sure they have an important contribution to
developing industry wide standards in this area," he continued. "We would urge
all operators in the industry, online and offline to wok with ESSA."
As a member of ESSA, Ladbrokes will commit to reporting irregular betting
patters through the association's Early Warning System.
In return, Ladbrokes will receive information from legal and official
sporting regulation bodies about any potential manipulation on sporting events.
"The European Sports Security Association is dedicated to improving the
sharing of information between betting operators and sports bodies," noted the
Trading Director of Ladbrokes, Mike O'Kane. "Currently the issue is surrounded
by rumour and sensationalism, whereas in reality the incidence of betting
corruption in sport is minimal."
"By giving regulators and sporting bodies a full and accurate picture of
unusual betting patterns, we can assist them in protecting the integrity and
reputation of both sport and its participants," he concluded.
ESSA was established by several sportsbooking giants in the industry, and
boasts as members groups such as bwin,
PartyGaming and Sportingbet.
