6 - If like me you eat, sleep and breathe online gambling, you're probably as
interested in the history of all things gambling as I am.
Take the game of Craps for instance. It is not the most simple of gambling games
to learn, but once mastered, is certainly one of the most exciting and vibrant,
for players and spectators alike.
But how and where did Craps come about? Well, it seems that craps dates back to
the Southern American town of New Orleans in around 1813.
However, it is believed that Craps originated from a game called 'Hazard' that
in itself was derived from an Arabic dice game called 'Azzahr'. As Azzahr made
its way across European countries such as England and France, it evolved into
Hazard by the early 1700s.
Hazard then made its way over to North America courtesy of early French settlers
who, eventually ended up in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Being located along the Mississippi River, many dice games were played in clubs
and wharfs along side or on river boats, and this where 'Craps' was born, an
'Americanized' version of Hazard.
Since then, Craps has gained in popularity in land and online casinos all over
the world! Incidentally, the name 'Craps' is believed to come from the way
French people pronounced the word 'crabs', which means a pair of ones.
