German Online Gambling Ban Claims First Casino - 02-14-08 |
February 14 - Following Germany's recent online gambling ban, the first casualty
has emerged in the form of GetMinted.com, an Alderney-licensed online casino,
which has announced that it will freeze the accounts of all its German players
from March 1st 2008.
GetMinted.com recently notified its German players that their casino accounts
would be immediately suspended on account of the German ban imposed on gambling online. Although they could still withdraw their online gambling funds up until the deadline on the 1st of March.
The email, which was sent out by GetMinted.com casino manager, Stuart Miller,
thanked the players for all their support since the launch of GetMinted.com, and
also apologized for any inconvenience caused as a result of the online gambling
ban.
Miller also confirmed that the online casino would continue to monitor the German gambling online situation in the hope of one day reaccepting German players.
The German government's decision to ban online gambling has been widely
criticized by the European Commission (EC) as being in direct contravention of
European Union free trade policies and principles.
The EC is reportedly in the process of putting political pressure on Germany to reverse the ban.
