Frank Addresses WSOP - 07-07-09 |
July 7 - Rep. Barney Frank inspired thousands of poker players on Sunday after addressing a captivated audience at the World Series of Poker tournament.
Frank was asked to speak in front of 1,700 players at the No Limit Texas Hold 'em Main Event that took place over the weekend.
The politician, who has worked tirelessly for years to have the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act overturned in order to make way for legal and regulated industry, told the players that internet gambling is a right that needs to be protected.
Barney Frank addressed the World Series of Poker tournament in order to garner support for his new bill that will hopefully bring about changes to the current gambling system in the United States.
While voting on Frank's bill has already been delayed once this year, he said that he believed he could get it passed by next year.
Another person to address the crowd was Phil Hellmuth who won the same main event exactly 20 years ago, and has gone on to win an incredible 11 bracelets at the WSOP since then.
Hellmuth said that there was no stopping the growth of online gambling across the world, whether the United States made changes or not.
A player who heard Frank speak at the WSOP event said: "This was an exciting event today. Representative Frank has been such a hero to all of us online casino players, and his presence at the WSOP is just uplifting. Hopefully he was inspired enough to move quickly with his legislation."
