EGBA Sets New Standards - 07-20-08 |
July 20 - The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), which
represents most of the European-based online casinos and gambling sites, has
launched a new standards initiative that will see its members abide by. Online
casino players will be able to enjoy higher protection and transparency thanks
to the operators behavior standards.
The Chairman for EGBA, Norbert Teufelberger, said about the
launch: "These standards are a sign of our commitment to an exemplary level of
corporate and social responsibility. They could serve as a basis of reflection
at a time when governments and regulators across Europe are trying to find ways
to best protect consumers in the online gaming and betting environment."
Among the 170 technical obligations set for EGBA members, online casinos need
to avoid juvenile and problem gambling, ensure fast and accurate payouts, adopt
a zero-tolerance policy on fraud and scams and guarantee players' privacy
protection.
EGBA will work closely with another powerful watchdog group, eCOGRA, which
will conduct an annual, compulsory check on the online casinos and confirm that
they are indeed keeping up with the standards to which they have committed
themselves.
"Our goal is to make sure that EGBA has a consequential expert review process
for evaluating each member's abidance with agreed and constantly applied
standards, which consumers and regulators have come to be expecting in the
online gaming and betting industry," said the Chief Executive Officer of the
London-based eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance, Andrew
Beveridge.
The new EGBA standards will complement the strict legal requirements imposed
on European online casinos by gambling jurisdictions in the region.
