BetonSports Seeks to Settle Fraud Charges |
September 21 - Lawyers representing top online sports book, BetonSports Plc,
have asked the U.S. District Court if it can settle the civil and criminal
charges it's facing out of court.
The Assistant U.S. Attorney handling the case has apparently agreed with
BetonSports' layers that the case should be able to be resolved with extensive
negotiations.
The popular LSE-listed online betting site is facing a 22-count indictment for allowing
U.S.-based online gamblers to gamble and place bets via the website.
BetonSports closed for business last month following the arrest in Dallas of its
then CEO, David Carruthers on charges of fraud and racketeering.
Carruthers, who was fired by BetonSports, remains under house arrest in St.
Louis, while awaiting personal fraud and racketeering charges.
The company is currently prevented from operating in the U.S. and the government
is seeking BetonSports to forfeit up to $4.5 billion in property and other
assets.
