BC Lottery Focuses on Responsible Gambling - 07-02-09 |
July 2 - In a step forward towards developing a more effective responsible gambling program, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) in Canada has announced several changes to its current system.
The new program has been designed to help players make informed choices about how and what they play and the company said that it would be incorporating television ads to get the message across for the first time.
The company has developed a concept known as GameSense which brings responsible gambling information right to the player's fingertips via the internet, or at strategic locations at gaming resorts and outlets throughout British Columbia.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of BCLC, Michael Graydon said: "GameSense is really about balancing the fun element of play and individual choice with the need to exercise a sense of control and stay within one's boundaries when participating in games of chance."
The use of public service TV ads to help players make informed gaming choices is a first in British Columbia.
"These ads represent the first ever responsible gambling television messages to appear in BC, and we're extremely proud they have been deemed important enough to have received Public Service Announcement status from the Television Bureau of Canada," said Graydon.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Responsible Gambling Council, Jon Kelly welcomed that new program and said: "The introduction of the GameSense innovation will make essential problem gambling prevention information much more friendly, appealing and accessible. It reflects BCLC's ongoing commitment to provide gaming entertainment in a socially responsible manner in communities around this province."
