Atlantic City Players Flock Online to Gamble - 08-12-09

August 12 - The once glorious gambling destination of Atlantic City is in a state of deterioration as more and more casinos face the fact that there may be very little that they can do to save their establishments.

The recession seems to be the nail in the coffin of this one lively gambling hub, which has been experiencing a string of problems for several years now.

Smoking laws, stiff competition in neighboring states and gamblers becoming more selective means that Atlantic City casinos have not managed to pull in the numbers as before.

July saw a decrease of 13% in earnings compared to the year before in the same month, and as less money comes in, casinos have less money to spend on fixing up the establishments and maintaining them.

The physical rundown of several casinos in Atlantic City means that some of them have lost their licenses, such as the Tropicana.

It is believed now that many Atlantic City gamblers have simply switched to online gambling in order to continue their favorite pastime.

"What is closer to home, with the amenities and smoking rule a player chooses, than home?" asked one industry analyst. "Once players are turned off by physical conditions, and then realize how much they can save in rooming and transportation costs, it's easy to see them flocking to online casinos."

Online casinos are known to pay better and allow budget oriented players to try out low cost or even free online casino games - something that would not be possible in an Atlantic City casino.
