Anger as ePassporte Keeps Mum About Pullout - 04-16-08

April 16 - There is growing dissatisfaction with the way ePassporte, a top online payment processing company, has handled its imminent pullout from the gambling market, especially among its loyal customers who feel that they were owed at least an official statement.

Last weekend, rumors on gambling forums started to circulate that ePassporte had stopped processing payments. The company, which made a strategic decision a while back not to service the general gambling industry and only offered its services to online poker players, filled the gap in the industry left by Neteller and was a firm favorite among US poker fans.

Most poker players learned about ePassporte's departure from the market after receiving correspondence from the poker sites of which they are members. Official letters were sent to all poker rooms by ePassporte, who in turn shared the information with their clients. The letters explained that the company had been "advised that the United State's Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York is conducting a widespread investigation of internet gambling, including poker."

US poker fans are understandably angry. ePassporte was one of the only ways left for them to fund their accounts and withdraw their winnings from offshore gambling sites. They feel that the information should have been communicated directly to them through an official statement at the very least.

Gamblers are also demanding answers to several unanswered questions. For example, surely ePassporte was aware all this time that US authorities are continuing their investigations against online gambling activities.

Most importantly, however, gamblers are angry that ePassporte did not leave them with at least a small window of time in which they could have removed their funds from the online poker rooms using their ePassporte accounts.
