32Red Sues William Hill Over 32 Vegas Brand - 08-10-09 |
August 10 - Two of the United Kingdom's most successful online gambling operators are involved in a lawsuit that may be difficult to solve.
William Hill is being sued by 32Red for using the 32 brand name through its online casino, 32Vegas.
32Red says that this comprises trademark infringement and it intends taking William Hill to court.
Established in 2006, 32Vegas works off the Playtech platform. The site was transferred to William Hill as part of unique deal that saw Playtech and WH establish William Hill Online (WHO) last year.
32Red claims that by William Hill giving the casino a name that sounds so similar to its own 32Red online casino, it has managed to confuse customers.
As a result, players have unwittingly opened online casino accounts with 32Vegas instead of 32Red, causing the latter to lose millions of dollars as a result.
The Chief Executive of 32Red, Ed Ware, commented on the case and said: "William Hill have been benefiting from this while we have been losing out. It is a big organization trading on our name and reputation and we look forward to recover appropriate damages and compensation."
It is alleged that 32Vegas made around GBP 4 million last year (prior to tax, and interest) on the 32Vegas brand name.
32Red is currently offering its players a GBP 10 deposit bonus and GBP32 welcome bonus to its eCOGRA certified site.
