Playtech Comments on Rakeback Debate

Saturday, August 08, 2009

PlaytechAugust 8 - Playtech, the leading online gambling group, has come out in justification of its no rakeback policy at its quality poker rooms.

The group`s boss, Danny Frishman, said in an interview that rakebacks are "killing the industry" and that Playtech is not ashamed of its no tolerance policy for those partners found contravening its stand.

Playtech has essentially banned the retention model which gave players linear percentages when playing at the poker site.

While Platyech agreed that it was difficult policing this policy because of the high number of skins issued by the network, the group said that all new licensees are told of the consequences if they do not comply.

"Giving player linear percentages from the rake they are generating creates a price war, reduces the bottom line to a minimum and does not incentivise loyalty," said Frishman. "It is killing the industry by taking money from developing better platforms and promotion."

Frishman explained that it was for this reason that Playtech had decided to ban raceback altogether, instead of just capping it like some of the rival online gambling groups in the industry.

Touching on the loyalty issue once more, Frishman said that "our card rooms now focus more on recruitment of new players to grow the overall liquidity of circulating players between the different card rooms in iPoker, and we have players that are more loyal."

On other matters, Frishman said that iPoker was growing strong because of the number of sportsbooks on the network that generated new traffic. He said that groups such as Paddy Power and William Hill brought in new depositing players, which gives the group a huge advantage over other companies.
